How smiling can change your mood


It is clear that many things these days can impact our moods, from lack of sleep to a bad day at work. By focusing on improving your mood as much as you possibly can, you’ll see a real difference, and there are a lot of ways you can achieve this. You might not think it, but smiling can be such a powerful thing. Indeed, there is a reason why the saying goes “Smile, and the whole world smiles with you.” The power of a smile should not be underestimated or undervalued, and where possible, you should try to make sure you smile as much as you can. Smiling can trick your brain into happiness

Believe it or not, turning that frown upside down can actually make you feel better, as well as helping boost your immune system and reducing stress! The very physical act of smiling causes a chemical reaction in the brain, which releases dopamine and serotonin. These are chemicals known as neurotransmitters, which increase happiness and reduce stress respectively.

Another important thing to keep in mind about smiling is the fact that it is infectious. If you have spent a lot of time around someone who is a happy and smiley person, this will become clear. Their mood also elevates your mood, and the more people smile, the more infectious it becomes. This is something that can really help you to smile more, which will have a hugely positive impact on your mood and the way you feel on a daily basis. 

Positive feedback loop

According to science, when you smile, it causes what is known as a positive feedback loop in your brain, and this makes you happier as a result. The action of your facial muscles changing into a smile triggers this positive feedback loop in your brain, and this rewards you with positive feelings. So, it is possible to actually make yourself feel better and happier by forcing yourself to smile more. Science is pretty awesome sometimes, don’t you think?
